I used a bolt for the nucleus, and for the cell wall I used a string. For the membrane I used a pony bow. And for the vacuole I used a piece of cotton.
For my project, I used a button for the Nucleus, a cotton ball for a Vacuole, a nut for a cloraplast, a bead for a mitocondrian, and lots of other stuff.
For my science project I used play dough, puffballs, a tootsie roll, a mint, string, yarn, aluminum foil, bolts, erasers, macaroni noodles, beads, and spaghetti noodles. I thought it was really fun. My mom thought it was really cool.
My science project was very fun to do. It was also complicated to do. I liked it a lot. I used play-oh for my chloroplast. I used string for my cell membrane. I used a battery for my Nucleus. I used a oval shaped bead for my mitochondria. And I used ribbon for my cell wall.
A few weeks ago we made Plant and Animal Cells out of play-doh. We brought things from home to make it. We used buttons, thread, pennies, and things like that. We had so much fun making it! Thanks for letting us do it again Mrs.Burton!
My science project was a plant cell and an animal cell. I had a lot of fun on this project because I got to do it with play dough and things from home.
Both grades completed models of plant and animal cells. They worked very hard on these projects. I am so proud of their creativity. I will let each student create a post about his/her project so you all can see for yourselves.
Way to go, Caroline on your Second Place Award in pencil drawing in the art contest at the fair. It was exciting to see one of our students with an award. You did a great job on your drawing. I know you are excited about taking violin lessons. I can't wait to hear you play.
My, how they've grown! The top picture is of Caroline, JT, and Jefferson and outside the petting zoo at the fair last September as 4th graders. I practically had to tie them down yesterday to get them to let me to take the same picture of them as 5th graders. I made them rotate seats so that I could have a picture of them in the same seating arrangement. It really got on their nerves, but I couldn't resist. I think JT gets the award for most growth/change.
After posing for several pictures, I asked the students to give me their silliest pose. This is what I got. You know there is more silliness in them than this. I will let you all now when I capture it. We are having a great time in 4th/5th grade. The kids are learning a lot. I am still amazed everyday how much they learn from each other. They completed plant/animal cell models in science. I will post pictures soon. We are currently working on adding and subtracting with large numbers in math. In language we are studying the subject and predicate parts of sentences. They are pros at this. In social studies we are working on map skills. We are studying modern-day Bible heroes and the history of hymns. We have learned about making choices that honor God everyday.
